Concrete Resurfacing

resurface1Concrete Resurfacing is also known as Concrete Overlay. Overlay is a polymer modified cementitious topping formulated for resurfacing structurally sound non-moving concrete floors and exterior hardscape. It provides a versatile durable surface that is abrasion resistant suitable for pedestrian  and automobile traffic. It is an ideal system for restoring worn or color blemished concrete, out of level surfaces or correcting construction error.

Toppings and overlays fill the bill when renovation or repair is required but concrete cannot be removed. This happens, for example, when concrete is cut out for a new plumbing run. Even though concrete is repaired and integrity restored, the only way to restore the appearance is with a topping.

see_the_galleryConcrete overlay is suitable in both commercial and residential properties and can be applied to interior or exterior surfaces. Decorative concrete flooring can be installed on any floor of the house as weight is not an issue, or in any room as an existing concrete floor is not needed, (by installing polymer modified cementitious underlayment to any wood sub-floor).

Although cement-based overlays have been around for decades, many of today’s systems blend polymer resins with cement, sand, and other additives to improve performance, wear resistance, and aesthetic qualities. Polymer-modified overlays can be applied in  layers as thin as a credit card (micro-topping) or up to several inches thick (macro-topping) without delamination or failure. They adhere well to existing concrete and resist damage from salt, chemicals, UV exposure, freeze-thaw conditions, and abrasion.

Micro-Toppings is a precise blend of graded sand, cement and polymer which allow for thin application. It can be smooth troweled, broom finished, or applied using a hopper gun for a knock down finish. Through the use of dyes, stains and integral colors, the color palette is infinite for Polymer Cement Overlays. Different trowel techniques can be used to achieve different appearance as well as stencil can be used to achieve different patterns. Application thickness range from 1/16 inch to maximum 3/16 inch.

Macro-Toppings is a precise blend of graded sand, cement and polymer which allow for thicker application which includes stamped overlay, and self-levelers. Stamped overlay is often used when dimension and natural look is desired. The material is troweled at 3/8 inch thick and stamps are used to create a pattern and texture to achieve a realistic look of Natural Stone or Slate. It is the same process that is used when stamping new concrete. A finished stamped overlay project looks exactly like stamped concrete.

Self-leveling Over-Layment and Under-Layment
Under-Layments can be used for various projects, repairing a damaged or improperly finished concrete floor to provide a durable, smooth and flat surface. This can also be used to provide a new concrete floor substrate over radiant tubing. This product may be installed ¾ inch to 2 inches in one pour or thicker in several pours. Over-Layment can be used over worn existing concrete surfaces to provide smooth and flat surface to be utilized as the actual wear surface. This product can be integrally stained or colored after installation.  Saw cutting is an option as is grinding to present unusual effects. The strength of the Over-Layment is in excess of 6800 PSI which is more durable than most concrete substrates. Upon completion of the surface coloring or design, the finished floors are sealed with high quality sealers. This process is suitable for residential and commercial projects.
