Planning for an Outdoor Kitchen

Planning for an Outdoor Kitchen

Extending your outdoor living area by installing an outdoor kitchen is a great way to entertain and host events at your house.   If you are looking to add only a kitchen area to an existing space then your kitchen can be designed to that specific area.  Designing an outdoor kitchen can become more creative and accommodating to your needs if you are looking to create an entirely new outdoor living environment with a new patio plan.

How you plan to use the kitchen, along with your budget are the first things to consider when designing your outdoor kitchen.  The best thing to start off with is to get an estimate of an average size kitchen with the appliances you need.  We can supply you with an estimate of a professionally installed kitchen with concrete block or a prefabricated, custom-designed kitchen with your choice of finish and countertop.

Next step would be to determine the size and location of the kitchen.  These two elements go hand in hand with each other.  If you want a larger kitchen then you may be looking to install your outdoor kitchen further away from the house.  A large kitchen would most likely accommodate a refrigerator, sink, and/or garbage area making the need to run in and out of the house less likely.  A larger kitchen can also accommodate for extra cooking space and larger dining areas.  There may be no boundaries for the design, allowing a custom-designed kitchen with angles or curves that will make the area more interesting.

Locating outdoor kitchens closer to the house is the norm for most outdoor living designs, the main reasons being access and comfort.  Locating the outdoor kitchen right near the interior kitchen makes access to everything you need just a few steps away.   You can also keep a closer eye on the grill if you are busy inside preparing other foods.   For comfort purposes, the house naturally barricades the kitchen area from the outdoor elements.  You can attach a covered pergola or pavilion to the side of the house and have the luxury of using your kitchen during rainy days without getting wet.  Outdoor kitchens located further away from the house may require plenty of storage to alleviate that problem.

Outdoor kitchens have become rather popular to incorporate in the landscape design.  Not only will it look great but your outdoor kitchen will allow you to be present and stay in conversation during the party while you are preparing food!
